“It Looks So Outdated” — Designer Who Once Defended NewJeans Now Slams Their 4th Anniversary Video

A designer who previously defended NewJeans during the group’s contract dispute with ADOR has now sparked fresh controversy after publicly criticizing the group’s newly released 4th anniversary content.

On July 22, movie poster designer Park Si-young, head of design studio Bitnaneun, shared a blunt reaction on social media after watching NewJeans’ anniversary video.

“I woke up and went to watch it as soon as I heard there was something new from NewJeans, and it’s so outdated. The vibe feels like it’s from the Gayo Top 10 era. Untalented people just jumped in and scraped everything they could.”

He also criticized the four-member format shown in the video, writing:

“NewJeans as four? It’s like Attack on Titan without the ‘Attack.’”

Park went on to direct his criticism at ADOR, saying:

“Someone with no sense but plenty of pride started a company and received massive investment. That’s the original sin. Narcissists.”

The Video That Sparked the Reaction

The comments were directed at a special film uploaded to ADOR’s official YouTube channel to celebrate NewJeans’ fourth debut anniversary.

The video featured Minji, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein, while Danielle, who remains involved in a high-value legal dispute with ADOR, did not appear.

A Sharp Contrast to His Previous Support

Park’s latest remarks attracted even more attention because they contrast with his previous stance.

In November 2024, after NewJeans notified ADOR of the termination of their exclusive contracts, Park publicly defended the members.

At the time, he criticized middle-aged men who questioned the young idols, saying people were confusing “working life” with “slave life,” and expressed strong support for the group.

Fans Split Over the Criticism

Park’s comments quickly fueled debate online.

Some netizens agreed with his assessment, saying the group’s signature creative style seemed to have disappeared and that the new content felt ordinary.

Others argued that the criticism was excessive, pointing out that the video was simply a special anniversary project and that such remarks could hurt the members as they continue their activities.

Meanwhile, ADOR denied speculation that the video signaled a four-member comeback, stating that future activities and plans will be announced only after discussions with the members are complete. The agency emphasized that the release was solely intended to celebrate NewJeans’ fourth debut anniversary.
